in march 2002, celine dion ended her three-year break from the music industry with the release of a new day has come. the album is celine's most personal to date and celebrates relationships with both her husband and child. the title track is one of my fave celine dion songs. because my partner and i had just adopted our son, the song really captured everything i was feeling at the time and even now. enjoy kiddiez!

so i was one of the thousands of people who watched girlicious on the cw. what can i say, i enjoy watching strangers who have marginal talent living under the same roof learning to become pop stars. i sat on this song wondering if i liked it enough to post it. because it was released during the time i was sick, i was unable to form an honest opinion. i am a better now and i like the song. so here it is. check it out if you haven't already.
last month i posted a tune by beyonce entitled what's good with you and i had stated that i thought i had heard a version of the track featuring foxy brown. well, a reader of the bog [fox boogie down - thank you] sent me the remix along with a foxy brown track featuring kiara. while foxy has gone through much turmoil in the past couple of years, i am hoping that she helps rebuild the rap game for females. fyi: the first hip-hop album i ever bought was foxy's debut the ill nana. look out for foxy's new album to drop on may 13, 2008.

who's got your love is one my all time fave freestyle songs. lyrically the song just surpasses many other freestyle tunes. melodically it is outstanding. i could go on and on. for years, i wasn't even aware that the tune was a freestyle track. i assumed it was a european dance track. released in 1992, it was one of the very few east coast dance tunes that exploded on west coast radio. take a listen for yourself - even if you are not a freestyle fan - i believe you will appreciate this track. and if not - no sweat - i believed in santa once. :-)

i am still struggling with forgiving justin for leaving janet out to dry after the superbowl fiasco. the music lover in me appreciates his work but the revolutionary in me can not look past how he used his white and male privilege to escape that scandal unscathed. even as i continue to struggle through forgiveness, i must say that his single my love is just off the hook. the video and it's choreography was phenomenal. here is a slammin' bass mix. check it out!

many assume that the supremes ended when diana "the boss" ross existed the group. however, they continued on and scored a few notable hits. one of my fave tunes from the 70's supremes is their last pop top 10 hit stoned loved. the only single released from their 1970 album new ways but love stays, many people saw that the song as a coded reference to drug use, and many radio station owners were at first apprehensive to play the record. however the tune was a plea for love and peace similar to those recorded by sly & the family stone in the late 1960s. the lyrics of stoned love were a plea for the people of the world to end conflict and animosity between each other, specifically the vietnam war. the term "stoned love" (or alternately, "stone love") defines the concept of an unchanging bond between one another. 
many of you might have already caught on, but i am obsessed with the 80's. if i had a magic wand - a glittery one of course - i would zap myself back into 1984. although i was just around 8 years old, i remember the contradictary messages and social cues i recieved. my mother had a good friend by the name of candy - who's son was my "good" friend. anywho, i remember while watching the video to pat benatar's top 10 hit we belong, my mother consoling candy because she had just been diagnosed with aids (the term hiv positive wouldn't be used until years later). as a young child i was confused because media told me that aids was a "gay" desease but my mother was supporting her best friend with aids who was both hetero and female. this is when i like to believe that i learned to not trust the media completely. so this song holds a special place in my heart. while i usually give the history of the song and artist, i felt the need to share my personal connection. thank you for taking the time to read. enjoy the tune.
after scoring a hit last summer with whine up, kat deluna shot a video for am i dreaming. because her record label recognized the great talent and appeal she has, promotion for the album came to a halt so that it could be relaunched properly and with better promotion. here is a new version of the tune that is schedule to be on her 9 lives re-issue this coming tuesday. check it out!

in 2006 after hearing the debut single talk to me from r&b singer george, i thought i discovered what i thought would be the next great canadian import. i was wrong. while he has scored a couple of hits on the canadian charts, his album has yet to receive a release date on this side of the boarder. take a listen for yourself. tell me what cha think (he's a hottie, right!).
kina got her first taste of stardom came when she was picked as a replacement member for the grammy nominated r&b female trio brownstone. in 1997 brownstone scored a hit with the single 5 miles to empty but their sophomore album was miles away from a success. kina decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career and found success with her single girl from the gutter in the spring of 2000. the single recieved good radio airplay but with the lack of promotion, her album went unnoticed. my partner loves himself some kina and i am sure you will too. take a listen!
