i will never get it. the reason why success eluded billy lawrence. both her releases one might say and paradise were extremely solid pop/r&b efforts. billy has experienced success as a song writer and vocalist working with the likes of mandy moore, jennifer lopez, mase and mary j. blige. after her appearance on rapper rampage's 1997 sole hit take it to the street, billy released up & down - a song that was not originally included on her sophomore album. unfortunately, radio ignored the tune. sometimes radio just makes me sick. i invite you to check out bill y on youtube. i am sure you love her like i do, up & down!

bronx-bred tony sunshine got his break after joining terror squad as it's in-house vocalist. everything seemed to be going as planned until the death of big punisher. although tony pushed on, he was left without his biggest advocate. in 2004, tony released the diddy produced oh my god to little fan fare. it's a solid track that just fell victim to poor promotion. check it out!
in 2003, after a five year hiatus, sisters latocha and tamika scott reunited with tameka "tiny" cottle, and added a new member, kiesha miles (not pictured), to release a new album entitled, unchained. they released the single, what's up. the single was quickly added to pop stations around the country an it appeared that xscape was on the road to a comeback. however, political reasons prevented that dream from coming through. too bad because if the new material was anything like it's lead single, they would have gained a new generation of fans.
in 2005, puerto rican princess jeannie ortega scored a minor hit with crowded. the follow up single, the very pop friendly so done failed to pick up where the previous single left off. what is a shame is that this young lady has talent and so done is an all round great track. take a listen for yourself.

ex-girlfriend had the benefit of working with full force on their debut. after supplying luscious background vocals for jasmine guy on her debut single try me, the group dropped their debut album x marks the spot. the lead single, why can't you come home? was an r&b smash. their follow up singles would not fair as well and their sophmore cd went unnoticed. however, ex-girlfriend remains one of the most talented female groups of the 90's. check 'em out!
the good girls were motown records new jack version of the supremes. the group's debut album all for your love (one of my fave albums as a teen) was heavily influenced by the new jack sound of the late 80's. the group's second album just call me was released in 1992 with lukewarm success. check out the title track.
good 2 go was a female r&b vocal group from los angeles. their single never satisfied peaked at #64 on the billboard pop charts and at #10 on billboard's r&b chart in 1992. the group would have probably had some longevity had their label not spent all of it's energy on trying to break them exclusively at urban radio. this special post is for hotteacher. let's walk down memory lane together -- new jack style!

in 2000 madonna co-starred in the motion picture the next best thing. i have yet to see the movie. she recorded a couple of tunes for the film's soundtrack, including this absolutely amazing cover of the pop classic american pie. this is one of my all time fave madonna tunes because managed to bring a 60's folk tune into the new millennium but also kept the song's original charm. not an easy feat. check it out!
it was all a dream was the title of their debut album and the reality of their careers. in 2000 bad boy set their eyes of getting a piece of the pop music machine that was ruling both mtv and radio airwaves. signing dream was not a bad idea at all. they were the danity kane before the danity kane, except not all could sing or dance or move, but you get my point. in addition, being signed to bad boy gave dream a little street cred, which meant that they could record r&b/hip hop influenced tunes without looking though if they were trying "too" hard. their second single this is me was remixed and featured former caucasian bad boy artist kain. 
poor cheri dennis. signed to bad boy for damn near a half decade and she has still yet to see a proper album release and promotion. while cassie and danity kane were signed and received immediate backing from the label, cheri has to wait and wait. she almost got her chance in 2005 when her ryan leslie produced i love you began to pick up radio air-play. her debut album was given a release date but then the single lost steam and she and her album went back on the shelves. diddy did throw her a bone late last year when her debut album was released exclusively on itunes.
