after frontin' the female trio the braxtons in the 90's, toni braxton's baby sister tamar released her self-titled debut album in early 2000. the album yeilded two singles. the singles failed to gain signifigant radio and video airplay and ultimately the album didn't sell well. the second single, the latocha scott (of xscape) written ballad if you don't wanna love me was remixed by dance guru hex hector and managed to chart on billboard's dance chart. too bad that tamar could not break from her sister's shadow because her album was and remains a great piece of work.
i have been waiting for this tune to be commissioned for a remix. if you thought the original mix got yo butt on the floor, this one will have you dancin' like there's no tomorrow. check it out!
after jody watley, paula abdul and janet jackson soared to the top of the pop charts with catchy dance songs and slick dance moves, rca records wanted a bite of the action. tyler collins was singer, dance and theatre actress. influenced by the new jack song of the late 80's, her single girls nite out soared to #6 on billboard's hot 100. i feel so old! well here is to the 90's!
wendy moten is one of those rare talents that arrives in a flash and disappears as quickly. it escapes me why this lovely young woman with the perfect voice did not become a household name. picture it! philadelphia 1992, a young latino gay boy watched b.e.t.'s video soul. they premiere a video from a new and sultry artists. that video was was wendy's step by step and that young latino gay boy was me. the song failed at both r&b and pop radio but she did manage to garner some buzz with her second single come in out of the rain. however, it is her first single that is part of the soundtrack of my adolescent years. here's to you wendy!
