riding off the success of boyz II men, motown records had regained the pop domination that it once had in the 1950's and 1960's. after releasing one album on a&m records, shanice released her motown debut inner child in 1991. lead by the super hit i love your smile, shanice quickly became an artist to watch. the second single i'm crying was not released to radio although a video was released. the single that became the radio hit was the johnny gill featured silent prayer. while the latter was a moving tribute to soldiers over seas, i'm crying gave me and continues to give me chills. check it out!

in 1991, when laface records was beginning to make it's mark in the industry. one of the first acts signed was the new jack swing duo damian dame. i was a fan from the beginning, partly because who could not love a male/female duo who had the same hair style? gotta learn my rhythm, their third and final single from their debut album is without a doubt my fave. the single mix was remixed by a then unknown producer named jermaine dupri. unfortunately, the duo would only release one album. dame (debra jean hurd) passed away june 27, 1994 at the age of 35 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. damian (bruce edward broadus) passed away june 27, 1996 at the age of 29 from colon cancer. here is to their memory.

in 1991 i thought my love for the jacksons music was limited to janet and michael. however, i was blown away when video soul premiered jermaine jackson's laface debut you said, you said video. honey, i ran out and bought the cassingle. i played it so much that my neighbors became fans of the song. too bad that i was probably the only one who appreciated this song, for it failed on both the r&b and pop charts. it's true gem produced by l.a. & babyface. take a listen!

great, now zshare is up & running again. anywho, in the mid 90's i rooted for joy enriquez when she was on star search (how old do i feel?). she would go on to win the finals and then she disappeared. she reappeared in 1997 on the soundtrack for anna & the king. then she disappeared again. in 2001, her debut album was finally released on laface records. unfortunately, she signed to the label as it was in transition and her album never got the push it deserved. the entire album is amazing, but i am posting one song that me and my best friend love to sing while driving. check it out!

in 2003 evenescence exploded on the pop scene and even (reluctantly) on the christrian music scene with their now classic bring me back to life. while i love that tune, the final single from their major label debut album fallen, my immortal is without-a-doubt my fave. losing my younger brother to violence, my immortal, captured everything i felt and continue to feel about the death of my brother. it is a hauntingly beautiful tune and will touch you no matter which music genre you love. download it!

before she attempted to conquer the r&b/pop world, failed pop star brooke hogan recorded a couple of pop gems. her first single, everything to me, is in my opinion on of the most overlooked pop tunes of the decade. the song had great lyrics, production and vocals. unfortunately the single only reached #97 on the pop chart. zshare is acting up so i had to upload today's post via speedyshare. download this song, it is great!
